History of the National Technical Museum
The National Technical Museum was founded in 1908 under the name: "Technical Museum of the Czech Kingdom". Professors from Czech technical universities in particular lobbied for the establishment of the museum.
The museum opened its first exhibition on March 28, 1910 in Schwarzenberg Palace.
In 1939, the museum was renamed the National Technical Museum. It has been in its present location near Letná Park since 1941. A new museum building was constructed from 1938 to 1941 according to designs by Milan Babuška.
In order to make the building meet the needs of the museum, it underwent a massive reconstruction from 2003 to 2011.
On February 16, 2011, the National Technical Museum was reopened to visitors and has enjoyed great popularity ever since.
