History of Schwarzenberg Palace

Schwarzenberg Palace was built between the years 1545 to 1567 by Augustin Vlach on the south side of the Castle Square in the Italian Renaissance style.

Originally built for the Lobkowicz noble family, the magnificent building, which stands out for its striking facade of black graffiti, only came into the possession of the Prince of Schwarzenberg through marriage in 1719.

After the communists came to power, the palace was used as a military history museum.

Since 2002, along with the neighboring Salm Palace, it has been owned by the National Gallery in Prague, which had the building completely renovated. In 2008, Schwarzenberg Palace was opened to the public as an art gallery.
