Guide zum Hauptbahnhof Prag

Prague Main Railway Station, Praha hlavní nádraž, is the most important long-distance railway station in Prague and the largest passenger railway station in the Czech Republic.

The train station is located about 1 kilometer from the Old Town Square and a few hundred meters from Wenceslas Square.

Description

The building consists of a large central hall surrounded by two towers and framed by symmetrical wings.

The historic building and the hall above the railroad tracks are some of the largest Art Nouveau monuments in the Czech Republic and can be reached from the main hall via an escalator.

The platform hall has two hall aisles, they cover one house and three island platforms. There are a total of seven platform tracks here.

Three additional island platforms with six platform tracks are located outside the platform hall, they are provided with individual platform roofs.

The platforms can be reached through three pedestrian tunnels.

Good to Know

  • Display Boards: Initially, only the departure times are displayed on the display boards. About 20 minutes before departure, the platforms are indicated. Once you arrive at the platform, you still have to find the right track.

North and South

North in Czech is sever, abbreviated with "S" and denotes the part of the platform facing north.

South is jih in Czech and is abbreviated with "J" and designates the part of the platform that points to the south.

So if you read "platform 7J" on the display with the track information, it means that the train will depart from platform 7 on the southern part.

From the entrance, the north is on the left side.

  • Praha Masarykovo nádraží: Do not confuse the train station with the Masaryk station. Although this is in the immediate vicinity of the main train station and can be easily reached on foot from there, it is only relevant for some regional connections.
